Nikola Jokic photorealism pen drawing. Artist is holding the Jokic drawing. Denver Nuggets, number 15, going to shoot a basketball.

Hi, I’m Dena.

The first time I picked up a pigmamicron pen in 2015, I had no idea what I was doing — but I was instantly hooked. Ten years later, my side hobby of pen drawing has evolved from cartoonish to photorealist. In 2018, I started getting commissioned by local restaurants. And in 2020, I had my first show in a fine art gallery — City Arts in Orlando.

I use a shading technique called scumbling--which is similar to pointillism, but with squiggles (see below photos). It's all in the teeny tiny details and it works best with bigger pieces — 22x30 (see photo on left) and larger are my favorite canvas sizes. Average time drawing a piece: 75 hrs.

Originally from Baton Rouge, LA, I live in Denver, CO where I am a strength & conditioning coach. I love Nikola Jokic, playing basketball, reading & parallel parking.
